Artist Grant Award Application Form

The Weapons of Light Artist Grant Program supports artists whose passion and creativity align with the mission of the Foundation. By investing in their work, the program helps amplify artistic voices that bring light, inspiration, and meaningful impact to their communities.

Our artist grants aim to support artists, of any medium, discipline or way of life, to continue working toward the good in their spheres and communities. The Board of Directors for the Weapons of Light Foundation will review all nominations and select four artists to each receive $1,000 towards this goal. The nomination period will be open from April 1 to May 15th.  

The following criteria will be used to determine the awarded artists:

1. Adherence to the Mission of Weapons of Light (Below)

2. Creativity and passion for art production 

3. Answers to the nomination form questions

4. All mediums, disciplines, and types of art will be considered

The Weapons of Light Mission Statement:

The Weapons of Light Foundation aims to promote peace by empowering individuals to live virtuously. We believe that by cultivating inner peace and demonstrating virtuous behavior, individuals can positively influence their families, communities and ultimately the world. Our organization strives to educate and inspire individuals to live guided by virtues such as compassion, kindness, forgiveness, love and selflessness. These “Weapons of Light” illuminate the darkest of places and overcome violence and conflict.

We aim to create a community where ethical values are celebrated, and where people from all walks of life can come together in the pursuit of a more harmonious and just society. By promoting mutual respect, compassion, and understanding, we seek to bridge the gap between cultures, religions, and nationalities, fostering a world where peaceful coexistence is not only possible but imperative. Together we will create a brighter future for generations to come, one virtuous act at a time.

How to Apply:

  1. Gather Application Materials
    • Answer Application Questions below
      • Please write a short bio of 500 words or less.
      • Please write a short artist statement of 500 words or less.
      • How do you feel your artwork and practice aligns with the mission of the Weapons of Light Foundation?
      • How has experiencing, creating or embracing art changed your life?
      • How do you impact the communities you circulate in?
      • Gather 1-5 examples of your work in a portfolio link
        • (Google Drive, Slides, or Dropbox, etc)
  2. Visit the application link below to fill out the google form and get confirmation of receipt
  3. Winners will be notified and announced by mid-June.

FAQ

  1. Do you need to be a fine artist to apply?
    • No. Any artistic mediums and backgrounds are welcome to apply.
  2. If you have previously applied can you apply again?
    • Yes! We welcome any applications.
  3. Do you need to be a bay area based artist to apply?
    • No. However, preference is given to local artists.
  4. When do I need to submit by?
    • The application form will close to responses on May 15th at 11:59 PST.
  5. Who should I contact if I have questions?

  6. Are there any rules or regulations as to how the grant funds can be utilized?
    • No. The Weapons of Light Foundation does not stipulate how the funds are to be used but hopes recipients will use the funds to help them continue to create artwork and make an impact in their communities.
